The big problem was that I was always short on the kind of step by step detail that I needed to actually start, and get a real business going.  Oh I tried different things and worked very hard but never made any money.  Then I would get discouraged and give up for a while, only to find that eventually my dream would resurface.

In an effort to save you some of the time and frustration that I went through, I am going to give you the 10 step business blue print that I use in this post.

If you are ready to build your business, this quick 1, 2, 3 overview of the business plan that I use will give you a good basis to start with.  These are the basic steps to building a simple and yet profitable business. This is the way I do it as well as many other very profitable Internet marketers.

1. Now, for the purpose of this post, I will assume  that you have a niche. find a few products that you can promote until you have your own product.  Look at Clickbank and Amazon for affiliate products related to your niche.

2. Buy a domain name that is related to your niche.

3. Sign up with a good autoresponder, I use aweber. Then set up a list and create a squeeze page to collect names and emails.

4. Create a product like a short 10 or 15 page e-book to give away as an incentive for people to join your list.

5. Set up a hosting account

6. Create an account at ezinarticles.com.

7. Start writing articles and submitting them to ezinearticles.com with the link in your resource box pointing to your squeeze page.

8. Write 250-300 word articles. write them as fast as you can. and submit as many as you can. (this will be an ongoing part of your strategy to drive qualified traffic to your list and build your name as an authority in your niche.

9. Make a list of 10 main topics related to your niche. Break those 10 down into 10 subtopics. Write a page (about 400-500 words) about each.

10. As you write the pages, submit them as articles to ezinearticles.  Also you will compile them together to make your first e-book. Now as you are writing articles and building your list, you are also creating your first product that you will sell to your list.

This may sound simple and it really is if you know the intricacies of how to get through each step in the process.

Keyword tools;
If you are going to build an online business you will be dealing with keywords and phrases all the time. It is important to have access to keyword tools that can help you find the phrases and keywords that people use when searching the Internet for topics related to your niche. There are many good paid programs out there that you might look into later on when your business is making money but at first, you can easily find free keyword research tools that will do an excellent job for you. Here are a couple that I use all the time…

SEO Book Keyword Suggestion Tool;
This is a very powerful tool that will give you access to all kinds of information that will help you find the keywords to target for your Internet business. With SEO Book you get daily traffic estimates along with direct links to valuable
resources like Google Trends, related blog posts and directories, the DMOZ directory and other places that you use to get more ideas and related keywords and content ideas.

Google Adwords Keyword Tool;
This is another free tool that you should bookmark right now so you can refer back to it at any time. This tool not only gives you keyword suggestions and monthly traffic estimates but it will also tell you the average cost per click that  people would have to pay to be in the top three results with an adwords ad. This is important because it indicates how competitive the keyword is and also what it will cost you to run an adwords campaign on the keyword. This also gives you an idea of how much you might make if you place adsense ads on your web pages adding income on auto pilot for your Internet business..

Two More Powerful Tools

HTML Editors;
Again, you can buy a high dollar program like Dreamweaver or FrontPage to build your web pages or you can use one of the many free editors that can be found online. If you are advanced and feel that you need one of the bigger programs, go for it. However, I still use a free little editor to create my pages that is simple and easy to use and yet has many of the features found in the bigger editors That HTML Editor is NVU and it is an open source editor that has served me well over the last few years. This is a nice little software for designing squeeze pages, sales letter pages and mini sites.

Wordpress Blog;
If you are planning to build an authority web site for your business I recommend using a hosted wordpress blog as your main web site. The reason for this is that you can set up a wordpress blog with your own domain and hosting very easily and have it up and running in a few simple steps. The nature of a blog is to have constantly updated content added to it on a regular basis and the search engines love them for this reason. To get a fully search engine optimized wordress blog set up in three simple steps I recommend Expert Wordpress.

So you are just getting started and are not really sure where to start. You are designing your master plan for you new Internet business and you know you will need some tools in order to get the job done. The first thing that you should be aware of is that there are plenty of free tools available to you online so you don’t have to spend every penny that you have before you even start your business.

There are also many specialized tools that will require you to spend some money. Many of these can wait till your business is up and running and generating a profit. There are very few things that you have to have to get started in Internet business that will cost you up front. However there are three items that you will need that are essential to your long term business success. So let’s start with those today.

A Domain Name;
Once you have decided on your niche market you should choose a domain name that is related to that niche. It is best if your new domain includes a related keyword to help the search engines and possible visitors identify your site as being related to the niche you are trying to reach. For example, if you are going into the dog training niche you may want to buy a domain like “www.howtotrainyourdog.com” or some keyword phrase that is general but that you know that a lot of people search for.

A dot com domain will run you about $9 a year but you can get a dot net name for less if that is an issue for you. I do recommend that you buy a dot com name if you can find one. I use GODADDY to buy and manage all my domains.

A Hosting Account;
Now that you have a domain name for your new Internet business, you are ready to set up your web site but you will need a hosting account in order to get your web site live online so that people can find it. For hosting I use and recommend HOST GATOR.

I recommend a baby account with host gator because it allows you to host an unlimited number of web sites under the one plan and only runs about $8 a month. If the $8 is a stretch for you, you can start with a hatchling account for under $5 and then upgrade your account later when it makes since for you. I have tried other hosts and Host Gator is easy to use and has excellent support 24 hours a day.

Auto Responder;
An auto responder is a software that allows you to collect names and email addresses of your visitors and prospects and then stay in contact with them through an automated pre-written email campaign. This is probably one of the most important tools that you can have for your long term success in Internet marketing.

I have use a few of the available auto responder services and recommend AWEBER. They have one of the best delivery rates in the business. They are simple to use and have excellent tutorials and training to help you get the most from their service as well as top notch support.

There may be less expensive services out there but trust me, this is not the place that you want to try to cut corners. Your auto responder service is the tool that you will use to build a relationship and trust with your subscribers and it needs to be done right or it can become a real expense rather than an asset for your new Internet business.

1) The first reason that an online business can fit into almost any ones lifestyle is that you can work on your business whenever you have the time available to you. You are not restricted by store hours or trying to meet with your prospects on nights and weekends when they are at home. You can work on your business whenever it is most convenient for you.

2) You can avoid the trap of trading time for dollars. In the offline business world you are limited to trading your time for dollars. You are only given so much time that you can work and that limits the amount of income that you can earn. With an Internet marketing business you have the ability to do the work once and to be paid for that effort over and over again. You even have the ability to set up your business so that most of it run’s on autopilot, giving you the freedom to increase your income without increasing your work load.

3) Your market is world wide and active twenty four hours a day and seven days a week all year long. You have the ability to create a Internet business that will earn you money while you sleep, while you travel and while you do the other things that are important in your life like spending time with you family and friends.

4)You are not tied to any geographic location and have the flexibility to build your business anywhere in the world that you would like to be as long as you have access to the Internet. You can travel, buy that beach house or just spend your time living life on your own terms rather than having your lifestyle dictated to you by others. The list of benefits for starting an Internet business could go on and on but you get the idea. So what is holding you back?

There is however a challenge that slaps many new Internet entrepreneurs in the face. That challenge is information! When you begin to look around on the web for information about starting your new Internet business the information will come at you from every direction an suddenly for find yourself sitting there with your head swimming from a common affliction for the new Internet marketer, that affliction is known as information overload.

It happens to all of us! We begin to look for something that looks like it will give us the information that we think we need to get our business going and we get hit with web site after web site of shiny new courses and products. So we buy some and begin our learning. That is not the problem! The problem happens when we find that we didn’t quite get all the details that we needed out of the last course so we start looking again, we find something that looks pretty good and buy it. Then the cycle repeats over and over.

Suddenly we look up one day from our computer screen and realize that we have spent no telling how much money and spent weeks or even months and still have no business or income to show for our efforts.

Does any of this sound familiar?

The solution;
If this sounds like you, you are not alone!  Most of us have been there and done that but there is a solution and that solution is really fairly simple. The solution is to create a plan or a blue print for your Internet business. This can act as a guide that you can follow that will keep you on track and focused. Your plan should be set up as a step by step action plan that you follow everyday to build your Internet business.

The core elements;
So now you are saying to yourself “okay, so where do I start?” and I am going to tell you. But first I want you to understand that Internet business is much like off line business in that the true success comes from doing a few simple things over and over again. It is not really flashy or sexy and it’s not even that complicated. You simply have to figure out what actions to take and do them repeatedly until you get the results that you are looking for.

Here is the breakdown;
Okay, here is the nuts and bolts of what you really need to be focused on when you start your Internet business. But first you must realize that there will be work involved and there is going to be a learning curve that you will go through. You will have to learn new things in order to get through each step that you will take in building your business. That is why the first step is of vital importance…

Design your lifestyle;
Yep, you read that right. You need to create a lifestyle on paper that you intend to live through your business. This is your reason, your motivation for putting in the late nights and weekends and doing the repetitive tasks that are require to achieve the success that you envision. Write it all down and put it somewhere that you can see it everyday. Clip pictures from magazines and paste them on a board, some call this a vision board. I can’t stress the importance of this first step enough.

Pick your niche;
There have been volumes written on the topic of niche selection so I won’t get into great detail here, that will come later. The main things that you should consider is, what are you interested in, what are you passionate about? Look at yourself and background for clues. Most people have some expertise in a subject that others would pay for that information. Do you have to go into a niche that you know, absolutely not! Would it be to your advantage? You bet it would. At least use your own knowledge as a place to start when you begin looking for a niche for your Internet business.

Decide what you will sell;
Once you have a niche selected you have to decide what you will sell to make money in your business. I know that many of you may be thinking “I’m not a salesman”! That may be true but if you want to make money in any business, something has to be sold and money has to change hands in order for you to make a profit. So you need to really study your niche and figure out what the people in that niche are wanting. Then all you have to do is sell it to them.

Build your web site;
As an Internet business person you are getting away from the brick and mortar world of doing business and yet the they are much the same. In the offline business world you would have a store to sell your products. On the web you will need a web site. It is your online business address and your store front. Your web site will be the way the people in your chosen niche find you. Now you don’t need to run scared of putting up a web site. There are plenty of options available that will allow even the newbie to create a nice web site.

Send the traffic;
Now you have your niche an your product or service, you have your web site and your Internet business is a live breathing thing. The only thing left  is to get visitors to your site. Driving traffic to your web site will be an ongoing project in your Internet business life so you might as well prepare for from the very start. It’s not all that bad and there are plenty of ways to drive traffic that you can start using right away. Again, there are full courses on driving traffic so I won’t go into the details here but I want you to understand that traffic to your site is key to your online business success.

Take Action;
So there you have it in a nut shell. It’s not that fancy or sexy, it doesn’t have a lot of flash but it is the truth. These are the basics that you will need to focus on when you are ready to get started in your own Internet business. If you keep focused on the tasks on this list you can avoid many of the distractions that can kill your business before you have a chance. There is one last point that needs to be made before we tie this up…you have to take consistent action!  Nothing will happen if you don’t act on it. If you buy a course, Take action and implement what you learned in that course and keep at it till you figure it out and make it work before you buy another. Action is the real difference between success and failure.
